~ napa valley

So my hubby and I planned a quick trip to get away from the hustle and bustle and craziness that is our life. Well, I planned, and he begrudgingly came along. It's hard to pull ourselves away, but always worth it!
We had just one wine tasting each day. The first, Joseph Phelps Vineyards, definitely set the mood for the entire trip. Sunny and 70 degrees, spectacular views... Oh, and the wine was amazing.

Our hotel, Calistoga Ranch is not unlike camp for adults... really luxurious and extravagant camp.

Loved that moss on the trees!

Each morning, we hiked on one of the trails on the property. Talk about renewing your mind and feeling at one with the earth... 50 degrees and gorgeous scenery, combined with the 2 hour time difference... I was ready to go at 5am!

On the way to the pool and work out facility...

There's something a bit unnerving about showering outdoors in broad daylight. Being completely naked with this much natural lighting... let's just say I was a bit self-conscious. I think I prefer the comfort of my dark and private shower where every blemish, every flaw (I have more than a few) is not on display. Two squirrels and a bird were staring... and judging. That's just too much for me.

Relaxation was not hard to come by... especially when my cell got NO SERVICE. I'm talking zero bars...

But with these views, who needs a phone?

My next three posts will be devoted to this Napa Valley trip. You can plan on seeing stunning images from Swanson Vineyards, Napa Vintage Home, and Chateau Montelena, all favorite haunts of mine!

*** What wonderful pics of a beautiful area~~~ I can only imagine how you hated leaving!!! (It's about time WE did something new, too!!!). Thanks for sharing your trip!!!

Loved your comment about the outdoor shower too, especially since I happily "ESCAPED" THAT "interesting adventure", in exchange for a lonnnnng soak in a faaab tub with a faaab view!!! (Men are SOOO much more willing to be "exposed", aren't they???)...

I appreciated your sharing this~~~ it's so BEAUTIFUL and RELAXING just to LOOK at!

Jan I am insanely jealous as this is one of my most favorite places on earth, tied with Paris. LOVE NAPA VALLEY. And ever since we were there last June I have been brainstorming as to how I can get back, trying to convince my husband there are no blends that I just HAVE to try, that they want me back there, etc......(he just rollls his eyes and igrnore my rants) But I do plan on going back next spring or summer, even if I have to use his birthday as an excuse:)
Beautiful pictures...isnt' it totally magical? I loved every single thing about that place.

I love all the photos of your beautiful trip! One of our favorite places in the world too!

We have been several times and I still feel like I have barely scratched the surface of what there is to see! Will be there again in the spring with friends, can't wait!

How were the crowds at this time of the year? (Hubby is not patient with crowds)

Forgot to mention...cute comments about the outdoor shower! As women, sadly we all feel this way. We need to love ourselves more and realize our bodies, no matter the flaws, are beautiful and have taken us to wonderful places like Napa!

One of my best, and oldest, friends lives in Glen Ellen, in Sonoma. And, I used to go out to Santa Rosa twice a year to work with a customer. It was heaven. I would stay at her house, which looks a bit like this resort(!); they had just finished building it and oh so luxurious. Off to work in Santa Rosa for the day, then back to her house and the hot tub and pool! Wish that was still going on....yes, I love it out there!

What a nice place, I could use a holiday like this. Because in Belgium it rains all day.

You can also read my blog in English thanks to google trans later in the upper right corner.

I live not far from here. I often go into Napa for lunch or shopping, but it is becoming very high end now and a bit too frou frou. But the scenery is just as shown in many areas and is, indeed, beautiful. I still love it.

I have visited the Napa Valley a number of times, and it is one of my favorite places. Joseph Phelps Winery is a favorite along with Silverado, but my all time favorite winery -- and especially favorite wine -- is Chateau Montelena. I am waiting for a Christmas visit from my children to open my last bottle of 1991 Cabernet Sauvignon. I am happy to be revisiting along with you.

I just saw your feature on Sherry's Open House Party. Love your home! I have been perusing your blog and came across your posts on Napa. My husband and I love Napa! My favorite winery is Sterling Vineyards! Taking the tram up to the vineyard and overlooking Napa...stunning! I am your newest follower and I invite you to follow me too! Merry Christmas to You!
