~ pearl and pajamae

My parents love their dogs. And when I say love, I'm referring to an obsessive, neurotic kind of love, where the dogs basically rule their lives. It's quite precious.
The dogs could not be more different. Pearl, the dog they acquired first, was really meant to be an only child. We aren't sure what exactly happened, but once dog number two came along, Pearl basically went into a deep depression. She loves my dad and sort of my mom, and just tolerates everyone else. Dog number two, Pajamae, (pronounced Pa' ja may) (the pa and ja are both pronounced with a lower case o) (think podge-a-may) (I almost cancelled this post because of the difficulty of explaining the pronunciation of this name) is a bit rambunctious and runs to get a slipper in her mouth when you return home so she doesn't bite you with excitement. A little weird, but better than getting bitten. The photos show their personalities.

Here's Pajamae...

Here's Pearl.

They are adorable. They are such good children for my parents... Much less stressful than real ones!

Oh Jan, I've loved 'The French Tangerine' quietly, looking so forward to your wonderful posts. So tonight, very late here near Austin, TX, I'm enjoying a moment with my vices and then I read your post. It's wonderful. I am a huge dog lover of all kinds and can understand all the quirkiness from having very many breeds throughout my lifetime. Your parents' doggies are wonderful and I loved your photos and description of the dynamics in the family! I presently am the loving Mom to a 9 year old rescued male Chihuahua named Jasper. We relocated from Shelburne, Vermont nearly two years ago to be near twin Grandchildren in Georgetown, TX,so he is very happy to be in warmer temperatures, nearer to his homeland. :) In my powder room, I have a beautiful linen Lee Jofa fabric "Pugs N Petals" which is in honor of our beloved pug, Lily, who was with us for 9 years. The powder room has John Derien plates and other treasured dog art and has become a tribute to my love of all things canine, But, before I go, I must say that your posts are often the highlight of my morning with coffee in hand and 'mouse' in the other! Thank you, friend, for the beauty you bring to my world. xo Nan

No worries about a Friday, the 13th! I was married on a Friday the 13th, a beautiful July evening in Vermont, 1973, to the love of my life, who is snoring in bed while I'm enjoying a little 'me' time. Oh, life is good!

Make this a beautiful day! Nan

Jan --
Can't help but notice that Pearl matches both floorings that you photograph her on. What inspired planning! That certainly is the trick to living with dog hair. I chose an English Springer Spaniel, which is black and white, so the dog hair never failed to show on everything! But worth it.

I do understand obsessive love when it comes to dogs! All our past labs were completly doted upon, and now the cavalier King Charles spaniels are the resident "children!" What a life your parents' labs have; a very good life!
