~ inspired home: architectural inspiration part 5

Part 5
Basement and Upstairs

The word basement doesn't typically evoke images of beauty in my mind. This basement, presented in this fifth installment of this inspired home, is not that kind of basement. Shall we?

Office

OMG the wallpaper.

Another collection... antique children's books.

Interesting posters from the Lauritzen Gardens Antique and Garden Show here in Omaha.

The witch poster, from the same series, was found in Atlanta!

More children's books...

More whimsy...

OMG the wallpaper.

OMG the wallpaper.

Now, back on the first floor, let's go upstairs...

But first, on our way to the staircase, these doors beautifully incorporated into the wall, really jumped out at me. Apparently, they were a fluorescent lime green when found. A man who specializes in this type of work agreed to carefully remove the lime green paint so as not to upset the delicate carving. Lo and behold, under the paint was a surprise. A two-year process revealed these lovely scenes beneath the paint! And the carving is spectacular...

Here they are looking down from the staircase... wow.

OMG the border...

A little fun added here and there...

The fun element fits nicely as there are boys living in this house, after all!

Incorporating old pieces into this house was a full time job...

This is the door to the bathroom... Remember I mentioned the "zero boring doors" in the very first post? This is a good example of what I meant...

I know... I could do a whole post on the posts in this house.

Another bedroom...

Dark picture, but had to show you the door to this boy bathroom...

I mean, why didn't I think of painting built-ins to look like this? Mine are white. Hmmm... Makes me feel intensely boring.

The diamond shaped tile is 3-dimensional. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the tile guy took the Lord's name in vain over this job...

Ha! This is the oldest kid's room. It's up a staircase behind a secret panel in the wall on the second floor... very cool.  He's going back to school and I had to laugh with his stuff on the floor... love it! Now this is something I can relate to!

And back downstairs we go...

I'm so grateful and excited about this inspired home. It was like a movie star house! Truly, I can find inspiration in any home, but the opportunity to share this kind of exceptional home where there is inspiration bursting from every inch is quite extraordinary. Thank you, thank you, and thank you again to my sweet friend! Thank you for your charming hospitality and for sharing such grand inspiration with us all!
