~ orchid obsession

When I'm bored with my house, sometimes I go to my sister-in-law's house. She has a serious problem with orchids. She's completely obsessed with them and has too many to count. Hop on the crazy train and let's see where she has orchids in her home...

PS She also has flowers other than orchids...

Charlotte thinks we are stupid.

I don't think I've ever bought an orchid in my life. They seem too fancy for my house. But now I'm feeling an urge to rush out and buy one. Or two. Or twenty...

She has some nice ones. I have never had one. Figured I would probably kill it. Love her confit pots.

They're beautiful! I've had some, and had good luck by watering them with ice cubes once a week! Works perfectly.

Well at least she keeps them growing. Mine always putter out.

Very pretty! I was always afraid of having too many but now that I see them all over your sister in laws beautiful home, I am going to get more tomorrow.

By the way, the tip from another reader about the ice cubes once a week is my secret too and works like a charm. They will last for a long time....not forever...but for a long time.

The orchids are beautiful! As is her home and her sweet puppy! ( looks just like mine!) I wish I could keep orchids alive! They are wonderful!

I buy them in the winter, they last a very long time if they are purchased when the buds are just opening. But getting them to bloom again never works for me. I also do the ice cube watering. Your sister in law's home is very pretty too!

I've tried to keep orchids and no luck there. Your SIL has the touch to grow them, and it shows. Lovely shots of her home.
Have a nice week.

Coming from a fellow sufferer of orchiitis, I feel her pain. I always have them too, I have a local flowershop that gets in these mega gorgous orchids (when I want to splurge) and then I hit Home Depot (when I am feeling frugal) Either way they add a sense of beauty and elegance to any room they live in.........they would fit in beautifully to your home Jan.

I KNEW I'd like your sister! And not just because of the little darling moosh sitting on the sofa! I could recommend two excellent sources for mail order to further feed her obsession. Venamy Orchid (orchidsusa.com) and J L orchids (jlorchids.com) I have a Stelis orchid coming into bloom right now from JL that only stands 5 inches tall with 1/8" blooms! So dear and perfect for small spaces!

I have tried to have an orchid. Thought I might feel "sophisticated". Killed it in less than a week. So much for sophisticated and back to normal.

Wow, beautiful orchids and home. Another sister-in-law of yours that has recently moved here brought me an orchid last week. I am scared half to death of it--never had one and don't know how to take care of it. Will try some of your reader's suggestions with the ice cube! Thank you for the beautiful posts you do--keep 'em coming!!!!!

I love Orchids and they can last a good long time. Buy them with some of the flowers unopened!
Enjoy!
