~ copycat mistake

Oops! I made a decorating mistake.. but thankfully, it's not a bad one.

I have been contemplating a new fabric for the benches in my dining room window. You can see the pretty silk fabric here. What you can't see is what Tucker has done to the silk... After all, it is his perch, and what was I thinking with the silk?

Anyway, it's shredded silk on top...

Consequently, the search criteria included something a bit more durable... and for fun's sake, something a bit more interesting. I fell in love with this gorgeous animal print in the gorgeous home of Danielle Rollins, who is gorgeous :)

It's exotic, it's rich, and in my opinion, which includes almost all animal prints, it's a neutral... To me, animal print is fabulous with just about any fabric, and goes with just about any style. I have it in every room in my home and I love it.

Miles Redd loves this fabric and uses it a lot...

A perfect choice, the search began. I thought I located the fabric... this Brunschwig & Fils...

Except the benches just showed up and this is definitely not the same fabric!

I'm not freaking out over it... I love them anyway and they do the trick. They are close enough to what I was envisioning and I may have chosen this anyway given the choice..

In fact, my curiosity got the best of me, and I did a little more searching.

Turns out the coveted fabric is a Scalamandre cut velvet, Tigre ~ 100% silk pile. Apparently it's one of Scalamandre's most sought after fabrics, and retails for around $1500 - $2000 a yard. Hmmm...

I mean I love it. I adore it.

It also comes in Leopardo and is similarly priced...

So the mistake turns out to be a discounted blessing in disguise...

First, the pics of Tuck are adorable! Love the stools--all the fabrics are to die for but I really think the one you have is perfect!

It never hurts to add a touch of animal print fabric to a room. Your new benches look great! I don't need benches, but how much is that doggie in the window? Tucker is adorable. I think he and Sadie would be good friends.

Tucker is so cute! Love the window...urns and flowers, all so beautiful! Love the new material for the benches {sure love the original silk as well}....but I bet a fur baby with claws tattered them a bit!

I think the fabric you got is softer and more subtle. Not to mention it offers a quiet place for Tucker to wait for you to come home without scaring him {the other animal print might have been a tad too realistic for such a sweet puppy to perch on}.

They look great.

Hi Jan, Several fabric retailers have an animal version of the Scala fabric. Some sites will let you search there sites by putting in key words like animal print. Stark fabric
also has a pretty version. To spice your stools up, you can add a pretty tape trim to the bottom.

I love Scalamandre Tigre and Leopardo but it is so expensive even wholesale!! Stark does have a great one too, I found a great site on Etsy for leopard pillows that look so similar to the Scalamandre fabric. I love the stools, and I love where you are going with that space, it's great!
