~ bahamas

On our last trip to the Ocean Club, it was just the two of us, celebrating parenthood by leaving our young children at home with their grandparents while we escaped to the Bahamas. We had such fond memories and couldn't wait to get back, this time with our three grown children, to celebrate Thanksgiving.

We prepared ourselves as best we could for the forecasted 80% chance of rain for each and every day we would be there…

On our first day, I took my camera on a walk to capture some vignettes around the resort.

Entrance to massage rooms...

The pool is quite charming...

Notice no one is at the pool. Also note the black cloud looming overhead...

Just past the pool is this stunning path to the Cloister...

Small ponds and fetching statues further enhance the already gorgeous scenery...

Looking back at the pool...

The Cloister was transported from France and rebuilt here in 1962.

Even with the clouds, the setting is jaw-dropping...

This is the entrance to Dune, one of the on-site restaurants, and our favorite...

Delicious meals were not hard to come by...

Check out the size of this lobster!

To our surprise and sheer delight, the blue sky appeared for our last day. This was the view from our breakfast table on Saturday morning.

No vacation is perfect. Not for us anyway. But this one was darn near close to it. Even with the rain, and a couple minor setbacks, we managed to keep ourselves busy and happy.

The clouds presented us with plenty of time for reading and I was able to finish two books, one of which was outstanding. I enjoyed the first book very much, but after reading Pat Conroy's, The Death of Santini, the first seemed to lose it's luster. To me, Pat Conroy is the master of storytelling, an eloquent and brilliant writer. Both the content and the melodic way he writes equally inspire me. Reading his very personal and troubled family history was especially revealing and meaningful. A haunting past retold with brutal honesty, sarcasm and humor, poetic elegance and grace. I am a huge fan.

Gorgeous pictures and what a fun thing to do for Thanksgiving! I would love to get to go away to a destination point for a holiday! I'm not sure the rest of our family would be thrilled but at least we would all be together without all of the chaos! I hate that it was rainy but so glad it cleared up for you the last day! I will be checking out this place for sure!
